Back on December 17, 2015, I inspected the average finishing time of each and every Texas road marathon (but maybe not every trail race that has a marathon distance).
Most races are listed in marathonguide.com and the data is able to be obtained from their site. Three marathons -- Amarillo, Irving and the Hill Country Marathon -- I obtain the results independently.
And as I stated before, the debate over a "fastest course" would only be settled if the same person ran all of the courses in the exact same conditions (training, race day temperature, field, etc.).
And that, of course, just isn't going to happen.
Since the last time I calculated the totals, six races have gone by the wayside (see the list below) and Beach To Bay Marathon in Corpus Christi added an individual competition in 2016.
Frankenthon Monster Marathon was unable to get "permits and permission worked out" last October and we'll wait for an update if they'll return in 2018.
Harlingen goes from a half to the marathon distance, moving from November to February.
Lubbock is adding a marathon - its second, following the Panhandle Marathon, which was a Mellew Productions race that ran for three years from 2012-2014.
It looks like the Silo District Marathon ($150 registration) in Waco will come into being on Sunday, May 6 - course unseen for the moment - and Dane Rauschenberg is going to produce a 104 times around the track marathon ($110 right now) in Texline, Texas on a Friday (no they don't play football in Texline) - the opening weekend of Texas high school football in 2018 - as part of a series of five marathons in five states in five days. All on oval tracks.
You'll see in the list below two times for The Woodlands Marathon.
Last year, the course turned out to be short after a lead official missed a turn cutting 0.8 miles off the course. I took the average time of those grabbed by marathonguide.com and ran it through the pace calculator that I use at coolrunning.com to get a new adjusted time for The Woodlands.
