Nearly 50 with 25+ Houston Marathon Finishes Set to Start on Sunday
When the gun goes off Sunday morning for the 41st running of the Chevron Houston Marathon, 44 men and four women will begin their effort which will further cement their status as the eldest statesman of the Chevron Houston Marathon Veterans.
With 25 or more prior finishes and ranging in age from 51 to 80, the group of 48 lead a list of 1,093 runners over the past four decades who have completed 10 or more Chevron Houston Marathons.
Likely to wear bib numbers 29 and 38 as part of the local elite field and reflecting their gender-leading number of finishes, Katy’s Maria Camacho and Houston’s Jack Lippincott will lead the group to the start line on Sunday.
Missing from this year’s list is Corpus Christi’s Clent Mericle, who is tied for second on the all-time list with Houston’s Rich McMahan with 35 finishes, but is the leader in the race’s history with 27 sub 3-hour finishes.
Led by Lippincott, McMahan, Houston’s Ray Boytim and Katy’s Arlen Isham, 17 of the list of runners below have finished each of their 25 or more marathons consecutively.
The fastest career marathoner running on Sunday with 25 or more marathon finishes is HARRA’s Vice President of Clubs, Roger Boak, who has completed his 29 Houston Marathons in an average time of 3:08:17, according to marathonveterans.com.
