Four-Meet Athletes Excel in Their Final UIL XC Appearance

Seventy-nine (79) of the 81 athletes who qualified for the 2020 UIL State Cross Country meets - after competing in it each of their first three years - actually ran in Round Rock on Monday and Tuesday.

Four of the athletes, listed below, were individual qualifiers all four years of their high school career:

Christopher Flores, Rocksprings (1A Boys)
Mathew Moralez, Premont (2A Boys)
Mackenzie Bryan, Tuscola Jim Ned (3A Girls)
Sydney Hornbuckle, Redwater (3A Girls)

The four senior boys champions - 1A's Isaiah Billingsley of Cumby Miller Grove and 5A's Walker St. John of Grapevine are juniors - have been at state all four years of their careers, but three of them didn't have quite the same start -- a third-place finish -- that three-time 4A champion Judson Greer of Melissa had.

Onalaska's William Boyce was 91st in 3A, Wylie's Luke Lambert was 77th in 6A and Poolville's Henry Fierro was 59th in 2A their freshman year, 2017.

Eight (8) runners registered top 10 finishes all four years.  That number includes three male and five female runners and they are as follows (ranked by the sum of their places from lowest to highest):

 6 - Judson Greer, Melissa (3rd, 1st, 1st, 1st)
 7 - Edwin Gomez, San Elizario (1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd)
